Things To Do at Hobas Lodge Fish River Canyon

The main attraction of Hobas Lodge and Camp is the Fish River Canyon, which runs for more than 160 km from north to south. The main viewpoints over the canyon are 10km away from Hobas.

The biggest advantage of staying at Hobas Lodge or Camp, is that you are already within the conservation area, and one can view the sunrise and the sunset over the canyon. Those staying outside the park, must wait until sunrise before the gate opens, and then there is still another 10km to drive to the viewpoint at the canyon. Also, the gate closes at sunset, which means you must leave the viewpoint before sunset to be in time before closure.

FISH RIVER HIKING TRAIL

A mere 10km away from the main viewpoint over the Fish River Canyon, this is the best place to stay if you want to be close to the start of the Fish River Canyon Hike. Enjoy dinner in the restaurant on site, accompanied by a drink at the bar and get a good night's rest before you start the challenging hike in the morning.

Shuttles are available from Hobas to the starting point of the hike. Transfers to and from Ai-Ais can also be arranged, depending on where you leave your vehicle for the duration of your hike. After completion, you can overnight either at Ai-Ais Resort or you can return to where you started from.

FISH RIVER CANYON VIEWPOINTS

With the entrance to the Fish River Canyon Park at Hobas, this is the ideal place to stay if you want to take sunset pictures over the canyon. The Fish River Canyon is the 2nd largest canyon in the world and the biggest in Africa, therefore all opportunities for photography must be explored.

The main viewpoint is about 10km from Hobas Lodge and Campsite, making this the ideal spot to stay at to explore the whole area. You can walk along the edge of the canyon and take in the beautiful views. Only the hikers that partake in the 5 - 6-day hiking trail is allowed to hike down the canyon, so please do not attempt the descent if you didn't sign up for the 5-day hike.

It is likely that small antelope like klipspringer or springbok or even mountain zebra may be seen towards the canyon.

Refreshing swimming pools are available at Hobas Lodge and Camp for cooling off at the end of a hot but exciting day at the canyon.
