Hobas Lodge Fish River Canyon
Conveniently close to the breathtaking Fish River Canyon, Hobas Lodge and
Campsite is the ideal stopover for hikers of the Fish River Canyon Hiking
Trail and adventurers driving or walking to viewpoints on the edge of the
canyon.
Initially, Hobas provided only campsites, but in 2017 the 6 Bush Chalets
were added to provide accommodation to those not interested in camping but
wanting to overnight close to the canyon.
The Hobas campsite runs on generator power, and there is no power after
10 pm. It is advisable to plan ahead and be prepared for this situation.
RESTAURANT AND BAR
The restaurant and bar cater for guests in the Bush Chalets as well as
campers in the campsites and day visitors. The chefs serve good tasting,
typically Namibian cuisine, which normally include various choices of meats.
Meals are served outside as the interior of the buildings can become quite
hot, but a lovely breeze might cool you down when eating outside.
SHOP AND KIOSK
The shop at Hobas Lodge provide basic supplies, which include cold drinks,
firewood and some tinned food. Don't depend on the facilities here to buy
all your supplies, though.
Beer and wine can be bought at the shop and a light meal can be prepared
for you at the kiosk.
SWIMMING POOLS
With Namibia being a desert-country, the weather is extremely hot in the
summer and also during the winter days. Temperatures cool down by late afternoon
and it can become very cold during the winter nights. Swimming pools have
been life-saviours for many travellers.
Two swimming pools - one at the campsite and one at the restaurant area
- provide ample opportunity for cooling off from the midday heat. Guests
to the lodge and campers share the facilities with day visitors.
Thatched, rondavel-shaped gazebos provide shade over the pool loungers
at the swimming pool at the campsite.
